St Marys Church, Sundridge
The Friends of St Mary’s, Sundridge is a registered charity dedicated to raising money to maintain and enhance the beautiful Church of St Mary’s, Sundridge. The Friends hold a number of fundraising events and try to ensure that they are varied and appeal to a wide range of interests. From serious lectures to light hearted talks, music ranging from Orlando Jopling giving a series of cello concerts, including the 6 Bach cello suites, to the madrigals performed in a garden and a wonderful performance by our local brass band. There is an annual Hog Roast complete with vegetarian option, live music and a bouncy castle. In 2016 we had the privilege of a private tour of Lambeth Palace and later on in the year the pleasure of having a group of dancers “The Dynamic Diamonds” come from Germany just to give a performance for the Friends, it was their only performance in the UK. In 2013 and again in 2017 John Rutter has been kind enough to come to Sevenoaks to give a Come and Sing Day. As John is probably the worlds most important living choral composer it is wonderful that he has made time to come to Sevenoaks and The Friends are very grateful.

Our publications are about the St Marys, its history and the people that have been involved with the Church. We have produced Notelets, Christmas cards, a booklet about the Church, a superb DVD recording of a talk on the history of the Church given by John Bailey, a history of Beilby Porteus and the text of the Beilby Porteus Memorial Lectures. Beilby Porteus (1731-1809) was the 116th Bishop of London and made an important contribution towards the fight against slavery. He had a country retreat at Sundridge and lies buried in the church yard.
